About Trick or Draw

Trick or Draw is a Halloween drawing game you play right in your browser. Ghosts are coming for your candy, and the only thing in their way is a little raccoon with a wand. Every ghost carries a row of magic symbols — a line, a bar, a V, a peak, a ring or a zap. Draw the symbol at the front of the row anywhere on the screen and every ghost showing it loses that symbol; clear all of a ghost’s symbols and it bursts into confetti and candy. Fight through 30 nights in five spooky places, from the Pumpkin Patch to the Moonlit Castle, beat bosses like the Pumpkin King and Count Boo, fill an 18-ghost Ghost Book and spend your candy on upgrades. How to play Trick or Draw

  1. Press PLAY. Ghosts drift in toward the candy cauldron next to your raccoon.
  2. Look at the symbol in the gold circle above a ghost — that is its front symbol.
  3. Draw that symbol anywhere on the screen with your mouse or finger. Every ghost with the same front symbol loses it.
  4. Clear all of a ghost's symbols to banish it. If a ghost reaches the cauldron, it steals candy and blows out one of your pumpkin lanterns.
  5. Clear every ghost to win the night. Keep all your lanterns lit for three stars, then spend your candy on upgrades.

Tips & strategy

  • One spell hits every ghost whose front symbol matches, so wait a moment when two or three ghosts line up for a Double or Triple combo.
  • Deal with the closest ghost first — Grave Crawlers pop out of the ground right next to your candy.
  • Draw big and clear. Straight lines, sharp V shapes and closed circles are recognised best; if a stroke turns grey, just draw it again.
  • Save your pumpkin bombs for emergencies: one bomb knocks a symbol off every ghost on screen.
  • Lanterns and Slow Spell are the best first upgrades if a night feels too hard. Every failed try also makes the ghosts a little sleepier.
  • Armor Knights hide their symbols until they get close, and Shuffle Sprites keep reordering theirs — watch them carefully.
  • Banish the Witch Queen's owls first: her shield only drops when they are gone.

How do I draw the spells?

Hold the mouse button (or your finger) and draw the symbol anywhere on the screen: a line, a bar, a V, an upside-down V, a circle or a Z. You can also cast with the keyboard — arrow keys for the line and bar, and V, A, O and Z for the others.

Can I play Trick or Draw on a school Chromebook?

Trick or Draw is a lightweight HTML5 game (about 110 KB) that runs on Chromebooks, laptops, tablets and phones. Whether it loads on a school network depends on that network's own filter settings.

Does my progress save?

Yes. Your candy, upgrades, stars and Ghost Book save automatically in your browser, and your trick-or-treaters keep collecting candy for up to 2 hours while you are away.

How many levels are there?

There are 30 nights in five places — Pumpkin Patch, Spooky Street, Graveyard, Witch Woods and Moonlit Castle — including five boss fights. After the first boss you also unlock Midnight Mode, an endless challenge.

Is this the Google Halloween cat game?

No. Trick or Draw is an original game made by Play When Bored. It is not affiliated with Google or its Halloween doodle games such as Magic Cat Academy. If you enjoyed drawing spells to stop ghosts there, you will feel right at home.
